World Mosquito Day marks the historic discovery on August 20, 1897, that female Anopheles mosquitoes transmit malaria. This finding led scientists across the world to better understand the deadly role of mosquitoes and devise effective interventions to stop them. PMI works on the frontlines of this effort, funding proven and cost-effective interventions such as insecticide-treated bed nets and indoor spraying with insecticides that protect people from mosquitoes and the malaria they carry.
