Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with an estimated population of 191 million. Malaria is transmitted throughout Nigeria with the transmission season ranging from year-round in the south to three months or less in the north. A 2015 household survey data show that the prevalence of malaria parasites in children under five years of age was 27 percent, a 36 percent decrease from 2010. PMI supports malaria control activities in 11 out of 36 states to reach approximately 56 million people.

Each Malaria Operational Plan has been endorsed by the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator and reflects collaborative discussions with the national malaria control programs and partners in country. Changes to these plans are reflected in revised postings.
