BURMA
The malaria burden in Burma remains the highest among the six countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion. Between 2011 and 2016, Burma has reported an 80 percent reduction in the number of confirmed malaria cases and a 96 percent reduction in the number of deaths attributable to malaria. The ultimate goal of Burma’s National Strategic Plan for Intensifying Malaria Control and Accelerating Progress Toward Malaria Elimination (2016–2020) is to eliminate all forms of malaria by 2030. To support this strategy, PMI is funding malaria prevention and treatment services in more than 1,500 sites, as well as a variety of other activities.
