BENIN
Malaria is endemic to Benin and is the leading cause of mortality among children under five years of age and of morbidity among adults. Benin began large-scale implementation of artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) and intermittent preventive treatment for pregnant women (IPTp) in 2007 and has progressed rapidly with support from PMI and partners. Rapid diagnostic tests, ACTs, and IPTp are being used in public health facilities nationwide and are being introduced into registered private clinics. More than 6 million long-lasting insecticide-treated nets have been distributed through mass and continuous distribution channels.

BENIN MALARIA OPERATIONAL PLANS (MOPs)
The Malaria Operational Plans below are detailed 1-year implementation plans for PMI partner countries. Each Malaria Operational Plan has been endorsed by the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator and reflects collaborative discussions with the national malaria control programs and partners in country. Changes to these plans are reflected in revised postings.

STORIES ABOUT BENIN
Researchers and Donors Collaborate to Ensure the Fight Against Malaria is Informed by Quality Data
]: Without timely and reliable data on confirmed malaria cases, it is difficult for those leading the fight against malaria to determine where and how to focus resources or measure the impact of activities. The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and African researchers have come together to assess the accuracy of malaria surveillance data so that national malaria programs have the information they need to protect populations and save lives.
Coming together to protect almost half a million Beninese children from malaria
A successful partnership between the Government of Benin, PMI, and the Global Fund protects children during the rainy season when they are most at risk.
