Meet Herculano Txizondo, a community health worker in Angola who each week bikes 30 miles to care for 50 families.

Partnering with PMI and recognizing the need to extend health services at community level the Government of Angola has adopted a strategy to employ community and health development agents (known in Portuguese as agentes de desenvolvimento comunitário e sanitário or ADECOs) like Herculano to prevent disease and promote health.

PMI supports ADECOs in partner provinces by funding their training, supervision, equipment like thermometers, digital mobile phones and supplies like rapid malaria tests and antimalarial medicines.
