U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator Dr. Raj Panjabi penned an op-ed for The Hill describing how the COVID-19 pandemic has helped malaria resurge. The impacts of COVID-19 led to 47,000 additional people dying from malaria in 2020, according to the most recent World Malaria Report.
For the world to get the fight against malaria back on track, Dr. Panjabi proposes three actions:
- Protect frontline workers
- Bring malaria care to people who don’t currently have it
- Scale up delivery of the new malaria vaccine while developing new and better tools
