The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), has awarded $36 million in new funding to strengthen malaria information systems and build capacity in malaria surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation (SM&E) in PMI partner countries.
The five-year malaria SM&E award—made to supplement the USAID-funded MEASURE Evaluation global health project—will help countries develop systems to ensure high-quality malaria-related data are available and used to improve health programs and policies.
This investment will:
- Help provide more accurate and timely data to inform malaria prevention and elimination efforts
- Enhance country-level use of strategic information to improve case detection, quality of care, and placement of resources
- Develop global guidance for malaria SM&E
- Support a coordinated response by malaria-endemic countries
