Meet Fainess Mubanga, one of the frontline heroes helping her community in Zambia fight malaria-carrying mosquitoes, thanks to the support of the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative.
Surrounded by swamps, the residents of Chisenga Island have limited access to health services and are at high risk of malaria. The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative supports Zambia’s National Malaria Elimination Program’s campaigns to help residents stay healthy by protecting themselves from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Residents living within 30 meters of the water receive mosquito nets while those living further inland can have their homes sprayed with insecticide. This is because PMI also works closely with the Zambia Environmental Management Agency to protect the surrounding water.
